Aftercare — Permanent Makeup

Good aftercare promotes quick wound healing and ensures the best results. Follow these instructions carefully.

General information

Tattooing causes injury that disrupts the intact state of the skin and provides access for micro-organisms. A freshly placed tattoo, applied under hygienic conditions on clean and healthy skin, can be considered a simple superficial wound.

Good aftercare promotes quick wound healing and reduces the risk of infections. Following the provided aftercare also leads to better results.

Not following the provided aftercare and poor hygiene can lead to wound infections, scar tissue, and undesirable results.

With hygienic and proper wound care, the treated skin is typically healed within two to six weeks.

Aftercare treatment

  • Wash your hands before tending to a wound.
  • 30 minutes after treatment, clean the eyebrows for the first time with one of the six provided cotton pads. The cotton pads are disinfected with a solution of water and Dettol Chloroxylenol 48mg/g 500ml. After cleaning the eyebrows for the first time, repeat this every hour until the pads are used up. You only clean the eyebrows on the day of treatment.
  • During the week, the eyebrows will form scabs and shed. This is a gradual process. Usually the scabs at the front and tips of the eyebrows come off first. On average it takes 6 to 14 days for all scabs to fall off. Do not touch the scabs or scratch/pull at them. This can cause pigment to be pulled from the skin, creating lighter spots in the eyebrows.
  • Once all scabs have fallen off, the pigmentation color appears very light. The eyebrows often also appear quite thin. In the following weeks, the color gradually returns.
  • After your first treatment, a follow-up always takes place after six weeks. A follow-up is necessary because after a first treatment there are often spots in the skin that don't absorb the pigment well right away. During this follow-up, all irregularities will be addressed and there is also the option to minimally adjust the shape.

Avoid during the healing period

  • Avoid taking baths, swimming, and sauna use until the tattoo is fully healed. Showering is acceptable.
  • Avoid sun exposure and artificial tanning (sunbed) for at least two months to prevent the risk of abnormal pigmentation. Only use sunscreen on a fully healed tattoo.
  • Do not remove scabs or loose skin during the healing period and avoid scratching.
  • Do not use skin disinfectants or antibiotics without medical advice.
  • The eyebrows must not get moist/wet during healing (on average 6 to 14 days). Exercise, sauna, or hot showers with lots of condensation can also make the pigmentation moist. Avoid this during this period.
  • Do not cover the treated skin with plasters or bandages.
  • Do not apply your own products such as vaseline or creams to the treated skin.

Normal signs during healing

The following is completely normal after your treatment — no cause for concern:

  • Fluid discharge (clear or pink fluid mixed with tattoo ink) during the first days.
  • Redness within the tattooed area.
  • Slight swelling in the first hours to days, but should decrease each day.
  • Color difference between left and right, grayish-looking eyebrows, or light spots after the first treatment.
  • The pigmentation appears darker than expected immediately after treatment. The pigmentation becomes on average up to 45% lighter after the scabs have fallen off.
  • The shape is not exactly the same — this can even out and will be corrected during the follow-up.
  • The treated areas itch during healing.
